Chinese
Myth
A dragon swallows the sun. It needs to be frightened
away by beating of drums.
This is the story of two royal astronomers,
Hsi and Ho. They knew about the occurance of the eclipse but failed
to inform the king. And, when the eclipse happened, they were having
fun at the cost of people's anxiety. The belief in china was that
a dragon eats up the sun and has to be scarred by beating of drums
and shooting of arrows into the sky. When
this eclipse took place
the emperor was caught unprepared . The angry ruler ordered the astronomers
beheaded. The sun though returned after the eclipse.
